GAA Exhibitions & Conferences on announcing the Africa Trade and Investment Global Summit (ATIGS) 2018: Interview with Mr Bako Ambianda, Director, GAA Exhibitions & Conferences.
GAA Exhibitions & Conferences has earmarked the opening of the Africa Trade and Investment Global Summit (ATIGS), with the aim of delivering various development agendas. These range from the World Trade Organization’s mandate on Africa, the AGOA dispensation and Africa Union’s Agenda 2063, among others. Through this partnership with the United Nations’ International Trade Centre, the event will bring together various country representatives from around Africa and the globe. To learn more on the scope and objectives of the event, Bizrika spoke to the team at GAA Exhibitions & Conferences.
Could you briefly give the agenda of ATIGS 2018 on Africa trade?
ATIGS 2018 will be held at the World Trade Center Washington D.C – Ronald Reagan Building, in partnership with several international trade agencies as the event has key agenda on Africa trade including, building a Stronger Platform for Exports, Africa Continental Free Trade Area, Facilitating Efficient Movement of Goods Across Borders, African Growth and Opportunity Act, China – Africa Partnership, USA – Africa Partnership, EU-Africa Partnership, and Boosting Intra-African Trade.
The International Trade Centre is a key partner in the event. What will be its role?
Yes, we are honored to have the endorsement of International Trade Centre for ATIGS 2018. The Council will invite / arrange external speakers, representatives of government agencies and the media, create and design some important topics to be discus at ATIGS 2018, and will promote the event in the Council newsletter, social media channels and on the Council’s website.
You are committed to meet UN’s SDG 8. How will you realize decent work and economic growth?
Great question. One of ATIGS objective ATIGS 2018 goals and objectives are aligned with SDGs 8, and we are a participant of United Nations Global Compact. We have a roadmap for ATIGS 2018 and beyond to continue with economic growth activities after the Summit through ATIGS core programs set to launch CEO Network within the ATIGS structure and Cities Network on Trade & Investment, which will be significant to realizing decent work and economic growth in the cities that will join the Cities Network on Trade & Investment.
You are also committed to implement SDG 17. How will partnerships that UN recommends come to bear on the upcoming event?
The background of ATIGS cooperation framework ties into SDG 17, as ATIGS 2018 is designed to contribute to AGOA, Trade Africa, World Trade Organization Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA), SDGs Agenda 2030 and AU Agenda 2063 by playing an important contribution in enabling companies all around the world and global investors to access African markets as a one-stop shop facilitating international trade and investment partners to support all internationally agreed sustainable development goals and objectives.
Which African countries are likely to attend the conference?
We anticipate over 35 African countries to attend, current confirmed countries include South Africa, Algeria, Nigeria, Namibia, Ghana, Ethiopia, Gambia, Uganda among others. The event is still developing, and more details about participating countries, and agencies can be found on the event website – www.atigs2018.com We anticipate the presence of Investment Promotion Agencies (IPAs), and Trade Promotional Organizations (TPOs) from several African countries.
Given the big ambitions ATIGS 2018, how long will the event last?
ATIGS 2018 is a three-day event with unique activities, top rated speakers and high-level participation. The formats are designed to give delegates more opportunities for questions, debate, and peer to peer interaction, but still with the same high-quality content delegates will come expecting from ATIGS 2018. We will have Ministerial Roundtable, Investors’ Zone, Investment and Trade Awards, Meet the FDI Experts, Bilateral Meetings, and Signing Ceremony.
