Mobile phone users in Nigeria: Over 90 Million
The Mobile Marketing Association is planning to establish a West African office that will be based in Nigeria. Business Day, the Nigerian based business paper, reports that the move by MMA is informed by the fact that mobile usage in Nigeria is increasing at a rapid rate; with a penetration exceeding 50% which represents more than 90 million mobile phone users in the West African country.
Nigeria is among many countries in West Africa and indeed Africa at large where mobile commerce is showing interesting trends for the business community. Studies on Mobile Marketing have indicated that Mobile Marketing is rapidly shaping the future of digital, and researchers have already pointed strongly that the future of digital is mobile, with more internet based search expected to come from mobile phones in times a head.
Terry Murphy, the MMA general manager, was in Lagos to oversee preparations for the MMA Nigeria launch which is scheduled for early March, 2012.
